2. Everyone else's "needs" are getting in the way of my alcoholism.
3. I feel like I just want to take a shot of jack, have sex, and shoot myself in the face. In that order exactly.
4. The frequency that you give me blue balls couldn't be healthy.
5. If I had feelings, you would have hurt them.
6. Can I even tell you how badly I want a day that is just on and off napping and sex with intermittent snack breaks? Because I want that day very badly.
7. [text him instead]

Think you have room in your schedule?

[ Someone's still angry over a certain newly-minted 'hero' getting a promotion. ]

Besides, it isn't about work. I wanna see you. That's it.
no subject
I want to see you too. I'll make time, I'm still supposed to be "recovering" anyway.
no subject
Are you? How're you feeling?
[ He hasn't even seen footage of Jack, he realises dimly. Though part of Chris thinks about grabbing a newspaper as soon as he gets into the city, another part of him thinks it might just be better to see Jack, himself, in the flesh.
God. With all the time that'd passed, Chris thought he was over it. And yet the worry persists. ]

They're gonna throw a damn parade for him. He's all anybody can talk about.

I don't like all this hero parade stuff, but I'm counting myself lucky I get to see you later outside of a casket, Jack.

[ Sure, he knows that's a positive outcome in Chris' mind, but it's damn hard to become a hero when you're stuck sitting in the back of meetings.
It's unfair to continue blasting all of his vitriol at an innocent party, though. Especially this innocent party. ]
How soon can you be here?
no subject
Instead: ] About an hour to the city. Maybe twenty to find you, depending where you are.
God, I really fucking hope my car still works.
[ But he hasn't been home in a long, long while. ]
no subject
I'll buy you another car if it doesn't, stop worrying about dumb shit.
[ In other words, stop worrying about things that aren't Jack Benjamin. ]
no subject
I'll call you when I'm at your place, though. See you soon.
[ That being said, Chris' truck does manage to start when he gets to where she'd been stored the whole time he was on the front. There's a definite weirdness being in the city again, but it's one he doesn't dwell on; though he does genuinely want to see Jack, he won't lie that a part of him's also relieved he can delay seeing his apartment. Chris doesn't want to know what state it's in. Honestly, he's not even sure he can sleep in it.
The only detour he takes is a refuelling before he has to deal with the hodgepodge of security measures to the Benjamins' home. It's bizarre having to give his identification to people who don't know him, but this is less because Chris misses having status and more because it proves how far away the war had been to everyone else. Chris has fought in too many wars; the people that he fights for have never really had any idea every time.
In any case, he's parked in the driveway, and he rings Jack's phone and puts it to his ear as the truck rumbles. The sooner they can leave, the better. Chris doesn't much care for the monarchy he serves, not as much as he cares about the country and its people. Jack, who he'd shared battlefields and shed blood with, is the only exception. ]
